Your Gastroenterologist is an Internal Medicine Doctor who has specialized training and experience in diagnosing and treating Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases. This training begins after a physician has completed a three year Internal Medicine Residency and is eligible for a Fellowship in Gastroenterology that will continue for an additional 2-3 years. During their training, Gastroenterologists receive expert instruction in Upper Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
