James C. Bienvenu, M.D.
A Lafayette native, James C. Bienvenu is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Zerben Bienvenu. A Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry. Dr. Bienvenu ranked first in his class of 100 at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He completed his clinical years at the Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Upon graduating medical school, he completed a General Surgery Internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Dr. Bienvenu later completed an Internal Medicine Residency at University Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. Selected for a Fellowship under Dr. Worth Boyce with the Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, Dr. Bienvenu received extensive training in all cognitive and endoscopic aspects of Gastroenterology.
Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by The American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Bienvenu served as an instructor at University Medical Center and as Chairman of Medicine at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. He has been deemed one of the top Gastroenterology Physicians in the State of Louisiana by Louisiana Life Magazine.
Dr. Bienvenu has been in private practice in Lafayette, Louisiana, since 1989. He joined Acadiana Gastroenterology Associates in 1996. Dr. Bienvenu currently provides service to his patients at Acadiana Endoscopy Center, Lafayette General Medical Center, and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
He is a member of the Lafayette Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, Louisiana Gastroenterology Society, American Gastroenterological Association, and American College of Gastroenterology.
Married to the former Melissa Morrow, they are the parents of four children. In his free time, Dr. Bienvenu enjoys running and participating in triathlons.
